A 10 day fully escorted tour designed to strengthen the relationship of parents and their children aged 10 to 18.
The Bayani Challenge involved volunteering in a Gawad Kalinga Filipino community called a Barangay.
Your tour begins when your flight arrives at Manila Airport.
Aim to arrive lunchtime/ early afternoon.
Cultural Welcome and Dinner.
8:30AM Take a jeepney to experience authentic church
service. In the afternoon we head to Intramuros to
understand Jose Rizal’s struggle to liberate his people from
333 years of Spanish rule.
We take our van to Ormoc, travelling through rice fields
where we will be welcomed by our Gawad Kalinga (GK)
Bayani hosts.
Gawad Kalinga (GK) is an incredible organisation working
in 3000 communities with a goal to lift 5million Filipinos
out of poverty by 2024. “Bayani” means Hero in the
Filipino language Tagalog. The challenge involves
volunteering in local barangays via school painting,
mangrove planting and feeding programs.
We continue our volunteering today.
We complete our Bayani Challenge today with a
celebration dinner to say goodbye to our GK hosts.
We leave our GK hosts and travel 1 hour to Palompon
for what can only be described as heaven on earth.
Crystal blue water and white powdery sand. A 1 hour
pump boat ride takes us to the desert island of
Kalanggaman where you can swim, snorkel, sunbake
banana boat.
We return to Tacloban for an early night still dreaming
about Kalanggaman Island.
We take a rest day to relax and chill in Tacloban City.
Amazing ecotourism experience as we drive over the San
Juanico Bridge on the way to Sohoton Caves.
This community tourism was developed after Hurricane
Yolanda with a boat ride to the caves. A 1 hour guided tour
through the spectacular caves is followed by a delicious
healthy lunch. A canoe ride upstream to the jaw
dropping natural bridge where you can experience the
stunning beauty and swim.
On the way home we stop by Eva Jocelyn Shrine -ground
zero for devastating Hurricane Yolanda.
